Join Shayne McGuire for a trip to northern Norway, for an unforgettable photographic expedition you will cherish. With Shayne’s remarkable photographic advice, you will return from this stunning trip with magnificent images unlike any you have taken before. It is a time of the year when Orcas and Humpbacks swim back into the Norwegian Polar Fjords, and the ocean begins to boil with millions of herring and whales.
Shayne ran a trip similar to this in Senja Norway a few years ago, it was always sold out.
Spy-hopping to the right and left of your Zodiac is expected as they surface with unabashed curiosity and clear-cut joy from feasting upon the plenitude of food surrounding them. Photography of Orcas and Humpbacks during the polar dusk is unbeatable when alpenglow swaths the steep snow-covered cliffs in the narrow waterways. We are also looking to have some amazing Northern Lights against the dramatic razor-sharp mountain peaks, dancing in the skies. Norwegian auroras are often bright (weather permitting) with various colors from green to blue, lavender to chartreuse, and even sometimes a rare red.
We plan to go for enough time to maximize our opportunity to see them from land and sea. You’ll need your wide-angle lens and tripod to get the best chances for night sky photography in the fjords. You may find the 70-200 is all you will need for Orcas. Landscape photography will be unparalleled in the regions we plan to visit.
Your ship, MV Villa, is the ideal expedition platform for photography and the enjoyment of scenery. Documentary photographers have chosen this ship for its 360-degree views and the ample deck space that allows for the compliment of serious photographers to catch their images without running into each other. We take 6 to each Zodiac, and only 12 guests may come aboard Villa, allowing for a customized expedition experience highly geared for photographers. Shayne’s dedication to all wildlife and wild things will enhance your experience as she shares her photographic secrets and her vast knowledge of the region. The history of Norway sparks the imagination with tales of Vikings, Trolls, and ancient winter sagas. Check it off your bucket list and join us for this transformative experience in Polar, Norway, the world’s best-kept secret for adventure travel.
There will be time to teach some editing in between the whales/orca and the northern lights. So bring your laptop
This is a photographic tour, not a workshop, you will need to have decent knowledge of how to operate your camera. Even though I am helping with the settings, you should be familiar with your camera, and have patience.
This is a fairly easy tour, you just need to be able to get in and out of the bunk beds , depending on whether you have upper or lower. (there is one suite with twin beds) and you will need to be able to get and out of the zodiac.
