About the Tour

Are you ready to take your camera to the wild side of photography?

Immerse yourself in the essence of Kenya. You will be entertained by the local people who will be taking care of your meals and needs when you are at camp. Their laughter and smiles will light up your day. On safari, seeing the big cats is a highlight, our guides are superior spotters. I want to introduce you to all the wildlife there is to see, I want you to be in sensory overload, however, remember to put the camera down at times, and look and listen.

Experienced Driver Guides

The drivers are silver rated and photographically trained by professional photographers. They understand the needs of the photographers and the importance of  quickly positioning the vehicle for the best light, composition, and exceptional photographs.  The guides have vast personal networks, through which they receive private information about sightings.

Deluxe Photographic Safari Vehicles

The vehicles are fully extended Land Cruisers specially  designed to give photographers the most flexibility and maximum space. The sides of the Land Cruisers are open (no small sliding windows) with custom built in bean bags. Small bean bags are supplied to custom adjust the height.  The roof has a special roll back top, so there are no bars holding up a pop top which creates obstructions of  your lens placement.
 They ensure plenty of space and options for using clamps, panning plates and other gear you might want to bring with you.

Extra Weight Allowance

While you will driving for most of your safari, we recommended flying back to Nairobi at the end of the safari and we have included 1 scheduled flight from the Mara with extra weight allowance on your flight so your gear and luggage can remain with you.  Each guest will have 32 kgs.

I have 2 land cruisers at our command. Each person having their own seat row. I rotate riders that need help to be in the jeep I am in. I only take 6 guests

An Itinerary Glimpse

We will begin at Solio Ranch.  Tucked in the valley between  Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, rests this private reserve, you will spend 2 nights and 3 wonderful days there.  It is  the most successful private Rhino breeding reserve. One can see both white and black rhino, sightings of up to 40 rhinos at a time are not uncommon. Other amazing wildlife that one can experience in the 45,000 acres, are buffalo, zebra, giraffe, oryx , and all  3 big cats.

We will depart Solio and head towards our next adventure, We will spend 3 nights at Laikipia Wilderness Camp. This is a chance to possibly see threatened species of mammals including the Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, oryx,  striped hyena, wild dog, and the highlight of the area, the rare black leopard.

We will then fly to the crown jewel of Kenya, Maasai Mara, where you will enjoy 3 memory filled nights, adding many more experiences to your safari.

Unlike some of the photographic tours run by others, we start when the park opens, sometimes before first light in the morning and go until the park closes at 7pm.  We sometimes spend the whole day looking for wildlife and scenery.  We will using 4 wheel drive safari land cruisers with guaranteed window seats . 3 guests per jeep with 1 photographic instructor in 1 jeep.

Technical & Travel

I teach you to work with the light. As with wildlife, sometimes you don’t have a choice when they decide to appear, but changing exposure techniques can render some wonderful results. Working with light, different focal lengths, shutter speeds and angles brings different results to your imagery.

While we are out in the land cruisers everyday, and we eat together at the lodge at night, it gives us many chances to talk about the days images, and what might be done different. Sometimes, it isn’t the whole animal that needs to be in your image.

We would be happy to arrange a private room for you if there is availability. The supplement for a private room is $1,200.00 (if available, as single rooms are limited)

If a solo guest is unwilling to share and requests single accommodations upon registration, then a single supplement will be charged. If you are a solo guest, who will share accommodations, we will do our best to match you with another guest of the same gender. If we cannot match you with another solo guest of the same gender, then the single supplement will be charged, up to, but not exceeding the fee of the single supplement. In this case, whenever possible, we will try to discount the single supplement.

Important Note

This is a photographic tour and you will need to have at some knowledge of your camera. The action goes down fast and even though I am helping with the settings, you have to know where things are on your camera, I do recommend gear that will yield you the best chance of capturing the images you dreamed of. I can’t be in all jeeps at once, I do rotate guests that need help in with me every other day.

I will contact either via phone or e mail to evaluate the equipment you have and if you might want to upgrade or rent to insure you get the images of a lifetime, as you are taking the trip of one! 

Patience is required for this tour! We sometimes sit for hours waiting on a crossing that may or may not happen. The radio for the park is on and if there is a good sighting, we can make a choice to leave to see it. Just so you know, if you leave your spot, chances are you won’t get it back. So Patience, bring it with you.
